Loading ...I have recieved a problem of lost of joomla admin password of one of my friend. He was asking how to change the Super administrator password on a joomla powered website.
It is quite strange that even i am working on Joomla from past one year i have never paid attension to this problem.So now i have to get over this as my clients may face this problems in future. So i googled for this issue and i discovered that, there is way to CHANGE THE PASSWORD not RECOVERING of it.
So Here we go with the tutorial for changing/reseting the password for joomla super administrator.
In joomla passwords are stored using one-way MD5 hash which prevents recovering the password. so you can reset the password by editing the password field in the database. Password is store in the “Jos_users” table password field. Using MySQL utility such as phpMyAdmin or MySQL Query Browser to edit this field.Open the table, find your admin username, and then select that row for editing.The password must be hashed, you cannot simply enter text into this field.
So you need a Hashed value for your password so that you can change it.For this Use these encrypters to get your password hased.
Using any one of these tools you can generate your MD5 hashed password and simply paste it in your jos_users table Save it.And you got your new working password.
